A bad solution is no solution

How many industries have a problem that has a generally accepted solution, but in reality the solution causes more problems?
Take doctors’ offices as an example. The industry has a real problem of patients being no-shows for doctor appointments. The “solution” that is general practice is simply to double and triple book appointments.
Unfortunately, that means that if everyone does show up, people have to wait much longer than normal. Recently I sat in a doctor’s office for about fifty minutes before I finally had to tell the receptionist I had to leave.
So what kind of a solution is that? No solution at all. Best case, it’s a temporary patch until a real solution can be found. But the medical industry has stopped looking for a better solution.
If your business has some generally accepted “solution” that seems to create more problems, here’s my advice:
Keep looking. If you find the right solution before everyone else, you’re the winner.
